I ended up keeping the second one - the defective switch was the start button, which until RB3 wasn't used much. Once the family moved to playing RB3, it ended up collecting dust and I used a standard guitar controller. I really missed having the dedicated controller, so when I saw a $40 price tag on this bundle, I grabbed one hoping for better luck - and it paid off.The wireless version (the one included in this bundle) is a second-generation version of the controller, and the build quality feels much better than the original - the switches are all solid (the wired controller's were mushy) and the fret buttons are silent but responsive. The split strum bar takes some getting used to - the feel of it is halfway between the "i can't tell when it's triggering" RB guitars and the "click-click-click) of the GH ones; it takes some getting used to before you get a... My only complaint is that the distortion setting sometimes changes as you play the instrument without changing to position of the switch. The guitar that comes with the game does the same thing - but we've had that one for probably 2 years. It's not a big deal considering the price.Eventually you'll have to pay hundreds for replacement instruments, so take what you can get.
